Partita is reminiscent of the Dance Suites of the Baroque Period (1600-1750). The Dance Suites (or Partitas) of the Baroque period consisted of a Prelude and 4-5 other movements which were always based on popular dances of the period. This work introduces extended techniques to the young saxophonist. The six movements of the Partita will introduce the young musician to quartertones, changing meter, 12-tone music, tremolos, spatial notation, and multiphonics.
